Section 1 (4 hours) Introduction.

Basic theory and fundamental lows of waveguiding and radio-transmission of electromagnetic waves within microwave frequency band. Forms and kinds of systems for microwave signals waveguiding and their applications. Forms and kinds of antennas and their applications.

Section 2 (12 hours) Theory of electromagnetic wave guiding in microwave systems.

Transmission Lines (analysis of operation in time and frequency domain). Waveguides of orthogonal and cylindrical cross-section (structure of systems, waveguiding modes: TEM, TEmn, ΤΜmn, characteristics and parameters of waveguiding, electromagnetic field distribution inside the systems). Electromagnetic resonators. Matching techniques among waveguiding systems and their loads. Microstrip transmission lines. Specific systems for guiding microwaves (structure, microwave circuits and applications)

Section 3 (12 hours) Antennas’ basic indices of operation and antenna array theory:

Indices of antennas’ operation. Antennas in telecommunication networks and radio-links. Radars. Linear dipole antennas. Methods for designing antenna arrays: 1)Method of uniform feeding 2) Methods of non-uniform feeding [ a) Dolph-Chebyshev b)Fourier c)Orthogonal d) Woodward-Lawson d) Fractal]. Exercises of designing antenna systems (arrays) for radio coverage applications in UHF band.

Section 4 (13 hours) Microstrip antennas:

Structure, forms and physical-mathematical theoretical analysis (transmission line model, cavity model and full-wave analysis). Wideband Microstrip Antennas. Multiband Microstrip Antennas. Microstrip Antennas for Base Stations and portable devices of mobile communication systems. Printed antennas for RFID systems. Exercises on designing microstrip radiating systems (microstrip antenna arrays) for wireless links.

Section 5 (3 hours): Wideband antennas:

Structure, analysis of operation and characteristics. Helical, conical, spiral and log-periodic antennas. Exercise on log-periodic antenna and antenna array design for wideband applications.

Section 6 (8 hours) Aperture antennas.

Horns and Parabolic reflectors (theoretical analysis and operation, applications). Exercise on design of global system of horn-parabolic reflector for satellite signals reception.
