On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Prof. Przemysław Struk from the Silesian University of Technology, Poland, gave a lecture on

Integrated Photonics for Biosensing Applications

The speaker introduced integrated photonic systems for biosensing applications. The lecture also covered light propagation in integrated-optic structures, including planar waveguides and grating couplers. Next, the concept and numerical analysis of an integrated photonic sensor was presented for monitoring blood parameters such as hemoglobin concentration and oxygenation level.

Przemysław Struk is a Professor at the Department of Optoelectronics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Poland. His research focuses on optical coherence tomography (OCT), including miniaturized OCT instrumentation, and MEMS/MOEMS technologies for sensing and biomedical applications. He also works on integrated photonic circuits and gas-sensing structures based on wide-bandgap oxide semiconductors materials.
